WHAT IS BENTO ?
On December 16, 2015 Linden Lab introduced a new project called "BENTO" :
This project aims to add numerous bones to the SL skeleton allowing to animate mesh tails, wings, hand fingers and.... MESH HEADS !
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/BentoSkeletonGuide
In order to benefit from these new bones, the meshes should of course be especially rigged to them.
Then, they can be animated through animations made also especially for this new skeleton.
Associated to these new bones, several new attachment points have also been added.
During quite one year, the Bento project was in testing process and went through several discussions, corrections and adaptations...
One of the important changes made during this period was the addition of an important feature :
The support of the SL sliders for the Bento Head bones !
As a result, the Bento Mesh Heads can be modified with the shape sliders (Head, Nose, Eyes, Mouth etc...) quite as the SL Classic Heads can !
But this new feature had impacts beyond what was firstly expected notably on the Bento facial animations.
Some incompatibilities and limitations appeared between the use of the sliders and the Bento facial animations :
So, in order to not override the settings made with the sliders the Bento facial animations should not use translations but only rotations (with some exceptions).
(We, at GA.EG, took care to use only rotations in our facial animations in order to let our customers use the sliders to adjust their GA.EG Bento Mesh Heads at their tastes.)
On December 5, 2016 the Bento project was officially released on the Main Grid and the compatible default viewer was available to download !
It is important to notice that you can see the Bento meshes only if you are using a Bento compatible viewer !
So check the compatibility of your viewer on its web site...
